Dog food.. It's a HOT topic, and I'm here to share my view on it..
For a long time 'dog food' has been the norm for most, but that finally seems to be changing. There's lot's of discussion on the subject and many more of us are becoming more thoughtful about what we feed our beloved furry friends.

I've noticed new brands popping up everywhere! Most promoting fresh, healthy, human-grade ingredients.. There’s also a recent big movement towards a raw diet too..
With so many options to choose from and so much contradicting information regarding the correct nutrition, it can be extremely overwhelming and even exhausting when simply trying to know what’s best for your dog..

Being a member of many online dog groups, I’ve seen people quick to put others down and tell them what’s best for their dog without ever meeting them, their dog, or knowing their back story.. But It’s obvious that everyone seeking a new diet has their dog's best interest in mind, so there’s no need to stress or put anybody down for trying..

I've seen many dogs thriving from a raw diets, as well as home cooked diets.
Different feeding habits can be observed in different locations around the world, all of where you will be able to find healthy, and unhealthy looking dogs. I really do believe it's about doing what's best for you, and your dog. For example; Some dogs may thrive from a raw diet, however Roo isn't a huge fan of raw proteins and has even had an upset stomach from it, that's why for us, we're happy and feel confident with our home cooked meals!
I believe that everything in moderation is the best way! Some people seem to get so caught up trying to create the ‘perfect’ diet which comes from a good place of course, but is also in my opinion slightly unnecessary. Do you weigh your children’s meals and provide strict portion control? Or do you just use your common sense?

After adopting Roo from the street, it didn't take me very long at all to notice the negative effects she had from eating ultra processed dog food instead of the human grade scraps she was used too as a stray.. Her bowel movements were runny which is not a good sign, and her breath smelt so bad! With her best interest at heart and wanting her to catch up from malnourishment her body has suffered, I did my own research and learnt about the best foods Roo needed to thrive! With an overwhelming amount of food brands and supplements on the market claiming to provide a range of health benefits, the ingredients listed always come from natural sources.. So why not start straight from there?
Because the fresher the better right?
You’d be surprised what you can put together with ingredients already in your kitchen and what you can pick up in the supermarket for a good price, especially in the reduced section! Roo continued to thrive with her home made meals, her poops were healthy and her breath was pleasant! Not only that, she'd always receive complements from strangers about how good her coat looked, one man on a walk one day even said "That's the healthiest looking dog I've ever seen!"

I don't have much personal experience with feeding a raw diet, however fresh homemade ingredients in my experience, are better for your dog than kibble in every way, provided it's done thoughtfully! Preparing your dog homemade meals can be more affordable than you think if done effectively too. Not only does it have many genuine health benefits, it gives you the flexibility to cater for your dogs exact needs at any given time!
Dogs are not usually very fussy either, so get creative and have fun with it!
Feeding a variety of ingredients also helps to promote a healthy gut micro biome
& immune system!
